Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) is a web browser application that is capable of rendering both static and dynamic web content. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way that Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 handles the loading of DLL files. The vulnerability is due to the way Internet Explorer handles the loading of IESHIMS.DLL. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by enticing a target user to save a maliciously crafted dynamic link library (DLL) file on the desktop or modify the system variable PATH. Upon starting the Internet Explorer 8, the malicious DLL will be loaded and executed. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow the attacker to take complete control of an affected system. |
