Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The common controls are a set of windows that are implemented by the common control library, Comctl32.dll, which is a DLL included with the Windows operating system. Like other control windows, a common control is a child window that an application uses in conjunction with another window to enable interaction with the user A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Microsoft Windows Common Control Library. The vulnerability is due to a heap buffer overflow in the Comctl32.dll file when processing certain messages passed from a third-party scalable vector graphics (SVG) viewer. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability would allow injection and execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code in the context of the logged in user.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows Common Control Library Heap Buffer Overflow (MS10-081) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
