Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | SMB Protocol is the file sharing protocol used by default on Windows-based computers. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way that Microsoft Server Message Block (SMB) Protocol software handles specially crafted SMB packets. The vulnerability is due to a pool corruption when SMB2 fails to properly parse write requests. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted SMB packet to a computer running the Server service. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system. |
This protection will detect and block malicious SMB2 write requests.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
