Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Adobe Shockwave is a multimedia player that allows Adobe Director applications to be published on the Internet and viewed in a web browser by anyone who has the Shockwave plug-in installed. A remote code execution vulnerability has been identified in Adobe Shockwave Player. The vulnerability is due to a signedness error while parsing tSAC chunks in Adobe Director files. By providing a certain negative value, calculation of a pointer may lead to a memory corruption. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by enticing a user to open a malicious DIR file. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability would allow arbitrary code execution.

Protection Overview

This protection detects and blocks the transferring of malformed Adobe DIR files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Adobe Shockwave Director tSAC Chunk Invalid Seek Memory Corruption protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
