Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description WebKit is a development toolkit which allows third party developers to build applications that use Internet technologies such as HTML, HTTP and others. A code execution vulnerability exists in Apple Safari WebKit. The vulnerability is due to a use-after-free error when processing a stale pointer using element focus. The vulnerability is triggered when a malicious HTML file is processed by the vulnerable application. In attack scenarios where code execution is successful the behavior of the target machine would depend entirely on the intention of the injected code, which would run within the security context of the logged on user.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to transfer malformed HTML files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Apple Safari WebKit Stale Pointer Use-after-free Code Execution protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
