Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description SMB Protocol is the file sharing protocol used by default on Windows-based computers. An unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that the Microsoft Server Message Block (SMB) client implementation handles specially crafted SMB responses. The vulnerability is due to a improper parsing of Create responses. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted SMB packet to the target. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malicious SMB2 Create responses.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R81 / R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft SMB Create Response Remote Code Execution (MS11-043) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
