Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in Internet Explorer. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by convincing a user to open a maliciously crafted HTML file with Internet Explorer, which will cause the browser to crash and may allow execution of arbitrary commands. The vulnerability is due to a defect in object lifetime management the causes Internet Explorer to release an object twice. To trigger this issue, an attacker may create a malicious web page that will cause Internet Explorer to exit unexpectedly. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability will crash the browser, and may allow execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Internet Explorer HTML Null Element Memory Corruption (MS11-050) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
