Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A memory corruption vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) Firewall client. Remote attackers can exploit this vulnerability by enticing unsuspecting users to open a specially crafted web page or view a malicious email message. By doing so, An attacker could leverage a client computer to make specific requests that could cause memory corruption on an affected system. The vulnerability is due to an error in the way the application performs bounds checking of specific requests. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may enable an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the security context of the logged in user.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Forefront TMG Memory Corruption Remote Code Execution (MS11-040) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
