Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Remote Desktop feature enables access to all of the programs, resources, and accessories on a user's computer from another Windows-based computer running the feature. A cross-site scripting vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop Web Access. The vulnerability is due to an error in the way the application validates URL parameter input on the logon page. A remote attacker could trigger this vulnerability by enticing a victim to click on a specially crafted link. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may enable an attacker to execute a cross-site scripting attack that may result in an elevation of privilege condition, allowing an attacker to view private user information or take action on the affected web page on the victim's behalf.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to open a malicious link.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Remote Desktop Web Access Cross-Site Scripting (MS11-061) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  RDP Enforcement Violation.
