Vulnerability Description | MPlayer is an open source multimedia player that runs on numerous operating systems including Linux, Windows and Mac OS X. Ports also exist for Amazon's Kindle, and the Nintendo Wii. It can play many audio and video formats (MPEG, DivX, Ogg, etc.) and handle various streaming protocols. A code execution vulnerability has been reported in MPlayer. Specifically, the vulnerability is due a stack buffer overflow when reading a long caption from a SAMI subtitle file. A remote, unauthenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing a target user to download a crafted SAMI file, resulting in the execution of arbitrary code in the security context of the target user. |
This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed SAMI files.
