Who is Vulnerable? Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5 Update 33 and prior
Vulnerability Description A stack overflow vulnerability has been reported in the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
Vulnerability DetailsThe vulnerability is due to an off-by-one error in the JRE when handling zip archives. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted ZIP file to the affected application. Successful exploitation would cause the application to crash, resulting in a denial of service condition.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malicious zip files sent to the affected application.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your product to the latest update. For information on how to update , go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Oracle Java zip_util readCEN Stack Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
