Who is Vulnerable? Microsoft Excel 2003
Vulnerability Description A memory corruption vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Excel.
Vulnerability DetailsThe vulnerability is due to a use-after-free error while parsing Window2 records in Microsoft Excel files. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by enticing an unsuspecting user to open a specially crafted Excel file, twice. Successful exploitation would cause memory corruption in a way that may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the security context of the logged on user.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of malicious Excel documents.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your product to the latest update. For information on how to update , go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Excel Window2 Record Use-After-Free protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
