Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the Microsoft Windows common controls. The vulnerability is due to insufficient boundary check in the MSCOMCTL ActiveX control. A remote attacker could trigger this vulnerability by enticing an unsuspecting victim to open a specially crafted web page. Successful exploitation would allow an attacker to take complete control of an affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of specially crafted files.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft MSCOMCTL.OCX ActiveX Control Remote Code Execution (MS12-027) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
