Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Symantec pcAnywhere Host Services. The vulnerability is due to improper bounds checking when copying user-supplied parameters into a fixed-length static buffer of size 0x108. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted authentication request to an affected application. Successful exploitation would allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R81 / R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Symantec pcAnywhere Host Services Login Remote Code Execution protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
