Who is Vulnerable? EMC Data Protection Advisor 5.8.1 and prior
Vulnerability Description A denial of service vulnerability has been reported in EMC Data Protection Advisor.
Vulnerability DetailsThe vulnerability is due to a NULL pointer dereference when handling a specially crafted AUTHENTICATECONNECTION message. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted request to the affected service. Successful exploitation would cause the target to crash, resulting in a denial of service condition.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of specially crafted requests.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your product to the latest update. For information on how to update , go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the EMC Data Protection Advisor Denial of Service protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
