Security Gateway |
Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | The Domain Name System (DNS) is an hierarchical distributed naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. When a DNS client needs to look up a name used in a program, it queries DNS servers to resolve the name. If the query names are non-existent or wildcard-matching domain names, the server response will contain "No such name" response. There are cases in which certain traffic, although not intended for malicious use, is very unsafe, since it may transfer shellcode which is undetectable by IPS. |
IPS will detect and block Multiple DNS "No Such Name" error responses.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
