Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A code execution vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Office Word. The vulnerability is due to an error in Microsoft Word that fails to properly parse specially crafted Word files. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a victim to open a specially crafted Word file in legacy format that includes a malformed record. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected system.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R70 / R71 / R75 and above

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Office Word Legacy File Remote Code Execution - Ver2 protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
