Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A use-after-free vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Office Excel. The vulnerability is due to lack of validation of certain record structures while handling specially crafted Excel files. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing an unsuspecting user to open a webpage containing a malicious Excel file. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected system.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R70 / R71 / R75 and above

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Excel BIFF Record Parsing Use After Free - Ver2 protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
