Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is a multi-featured server product that ships with all versions of Microsoft. The product provides FTP, SMTP, NNTP and HTTP services. The HTTP component, known as the WWW Publishing Service, allows for the serving of dynamic content, notably in the form of Active Server Pages (ASP) documents. A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the Microsoft Internet Information Services product. The flaw is caused by lack of validation in the way Internet Information Services handles HTML encoded ASP Web Pages. A successful exploitation may lead to execution of arbitrary code on the target host with privileges of affected service. In case of an attack where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute with limited user privileges. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the affected service need to restart to restore full functionality. |
