Who is Vulnerable? HP Data Protector 6.2x
Vulnerability Description Multiple stack buffer overflows exist in HP Data Protector. The vulnerabilities are due to a lack of input sanitization on Strings provided with various opcodes. The strings are not validated for length before being copied into a fixed-size stack buffer. A remote unauthenticated attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending a crafted request to the vulnerable service. Successful exploitation could cause a stack buffer overflow resulting in code execution in the context of the affected service.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the HP Data Protector CRS Multiple Stack Buffer Overflows protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
