Vulnerability Description | CA ARCserve Backup products offer data protection for distributed servers, clients, databases and applications. They provide centralized control over a series of distributed operationsincluding Backup and Restore, Data Migration, and Threat Management. There exists a denial of service vulnerability in CA BrightStor ARCserve Backup DB Engine. The vulnerability is due to insufficient memory initialization. A remote unauthenticated attacker may exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted message to the target server. Successful attack could create a denial of service condition to the DBEng.exe service. Upon processing the malicious RPC message, the DBEng.exe process terminates, followed by LDBserver.exe and cdbmergelog.exe. As DBEng is hosted as a Windows service it can be configured on some operating systems, like Windows Server 2003, to automatically restart upon abnormal termination. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
