Who is Vulnerable? Apache Software Foundation ActiveMQ prior to 5.14.0
Vulnerability Description A directory traversal vulnerability exists in Apache ActiveMQ. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation in the destination header when processing a MOVE request or in the file upload functionality when processing a PUT request. A remote, unauthenticated attacker may exploit this vulnerability by sending a file with a PUT request, followed by a crafted MOVE request to the server or by sending a malicious file using a crafted PUT request to replace executable components of ActiveMQ.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Apache ActiveMQ Fileserver Multi Methods Directory Traversal protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
