Who is Vulnerable? Rpcbind libtirpc prior to 1.0.2
Rpcbind Rpcbind 0.2.4 and prior
Vulnerability Description A resource exhaustion vulnerability exists in rpcbind, within its associated library libtirpc. The vulnerability is due to an unbounded memory leak when parsing XDR strings. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending specially crafted RPC messages to the vulnerable server.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the RPCbind XDR Parsing Memory Exhaustion Denial of Service (CVE-2017-8779) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
