Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Component Object Models (COM Objects) are used to enable data exchange between processes and the creation of dynamic object in different programming languages.Microsoft Internet Explorer is prone to multiple remote code execution vulnerabilities. The vulnerabilities are due to a memory corruption error in several COM objects that are not intended to be instantiated in Microsoft Internet Explorer, including: Imjpcksid.dll, Htmlmm.ocx and Imskdic.dll. The flaw occurs when instantiating the vulnerable COM objects as ActiveX Controls. To trigger the vulnerability, an attacker can create a malicious Web page that initiates a vulnerable COM Object as an ActiveX control. Successful exploitation could create a denial of service condition (causing the browser to crash) and could result in remote code execution on the target system once the malicious page is loaded. |
This protection will detect and block the vulnerable COM objects.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
This protection's log will contain the following information:
