Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Novell eDirectory is a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory-based identity management system that centralizes the management of user identities, access privileges and many other network resources. A denial of service vulnerability was identified in Novell eDirectory. The vulnerability is due an error in Novell eDirectory when processing 'Connection' headers in HTTP requests. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted HTTP request to a target server. Successful exploitation could allow the attacker to cause a denial of service condition on the affected service.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malformed HTTP requests sent to the vulnerable service.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Novell eDirectory HTTP Headers Denial of Service protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
