Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Serv-U FTP Server is a widely-used FTP server that includes enterprise-grade features such as SSL support, ODBC and Windows NT/SAM user account management, virtual directories, compression etc. By default configuration, Serv-U FTP Server listens on 21/TCP for incoming FTP request. There exists a vulnerability in the Serv-U FTP server prior to version 4.2, in the processing of the FTP "SITE CHMOD" command. Due to insufficient boundary checks on the input parameter, an attacker can create a buffer overflow. In an attack case where code injection was successful, the behaviour of the target is dependent on the nature of the injected code. One of the options being the attacker gaining control over the vulnerable Windows system. In an attack case where code injection was not successful, Serv-U FTP service will terminate abnormally.
