Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Serv-U FTP Server is a widely-used FTP server that includes enterprise-grade features such as SSL support, ODBC and Windows NT/SAM user account management, virtual directories, compression etc. By default configuration, Serv-U FTP Server listens on 21/TCP for incoming FTP request. There exists a vulnerability in Serv-U FTP server, versions 5.0.0.4 and prior, in its handling of malformed FTP MDTM requests. The MDTM command is a non-standard command (therefore, not RFC compliant) used within FTP conversations. The MDTM command allows a client to query the server about the 'Modification Date and Time' of a file or directory that is present on the remote server. Serv-U FTP server does not correctly validate input when an FTP MDTM command is run. As a result, an attacker can gain system privileges on the remote server. In an attack case where code injection was not successful, the remote Serv-U FTP server will terminate abnormally. In an attack case where code injection was successful, the behaviour of the target is dependent on the nature of the injected code. This context in which this code will run, in the default configuration, is LOCAL_SYSTEM. |
