Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Winamp is a popular media player for the Windows operating system. There is a buffer overflow within the parsing of .XM media files that can lead to arbitrary code execution. There is a buffer overflow in the .XM file type decoded within Winamp, a popular media file player for the Windows Operating System developed by Nullsoft Corporation. The exploitation of this buffer overflow can lead to the execution of arbitrary code on the remote machine in the context of the user running Winamp. Due to a bound check failure within the .MOD file media plug-in within Winamp, it is possible for a remote attacker to construct a malformed .MOD file and cause a buffer to be overrun, causing Winamp to crash on the remote machine. If the .XM file is properly crafted, it is possible for the remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the remote client. The arbitrary code will run in the security context of the user who is logged in to the remote machine.
