Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Serv-U FTP Server is a widely-used FTP server that includes enterprise-grade features such as SSL support, ODBC and Windows NT/SAM user account management, virtual directories, compression etc. By default configuration, Serv-U FTP Server listens on 21/TCP for incoming FTP request. There exists a vulnerability in the Serv-U FTP server versions 5.0.0.4 and below, due to the incorrect validation of parameters during the processing of the FTP "NLST" and "LIST" commands. In a case of a successful attack, the remote Serv-U FTP server will terminate, causing a denial of service. The administrator of the vulnerable system must restart the Serv-U FTP server for the service to resume.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Serv-U FTP Server LIST Parameter Buffer Overrun protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  FTP Enforcement Violation.
Attack Information:  Serv-U FTP Server LIST parameter buffer overrun
