Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | The Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) is a W3C standard based on XML. SMIL is the standard markup language for timing and controlling streaming media clips for media players. A stack buffer overflow vulnerability exists in RealNetworks RealPlayer and RealOne Player. The flaw exists specifically due to insufficient boundary checks during the parsing of Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) files. This flaw may be exploited by malicious users to compromise a vulnerable system by causing a denial of service condition or arbitrary code injection and execution. In a simple attack case, intended to cause a denial of service, the vulnerable target application will terminate upon parsing the crafted SMIL file. In a more sophisticated attack scenario, code may be injected and executed on the target system. In such a case, the behaviour of the target system is dependent on the intent of the attacker. |
