Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Firefox is a popular open source web browser for multiple platforms. The product implements various security features which are meant to protect the user from harmful actions which may be attempted by malicious web pages. Some of these security features are restrictions placed on access to resources on the local system or script functionality, based on the origin of the web page. There exists a vulnerability in the Mozilla Firefox sidebar panel feature. A web page may evade security restrictions imposed by the Firefox browser when it is bookmarked as a Firefox sidebar panel. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on a target system through enticing a target user into saving a malicious page as a Firefox sidebar panel. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow arbitrary JavaScript to be executed on the vulnerable host. The exact behavior of the affected target will depend on the code supplied by the attacker. The attacker can perform arbitrary tasks with the privileges of the current logged in user. There are cases in which certain traffic, although not intended for malicious use, is very unsafe, since it may transfer shellcode which is undetectable by IPS. |
This protection will detect Mozilla Firefox sidebar panel feature.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
