Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Internet Explorer includes a feature called Content Advisor. This feature allows users to rate the appropriateness of Web content and to control which web sites can be visited by a user. This feature can help to create a more secure environment that protects users from unsuitable content on the Internet. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer. The vulnerability is triggered when Internet Explorer processes malformed Content Advisor files. This vulnerability can be exploited to execute arbitrary code on the target system with the privileges of the currently logged in user. In an attack scenario where arbitrary code execution is attempted, the behavior of the target is dependent on the intention of the malicious code. If such an attack is not executed successfully, the vulnerable application may terminate as a result of the attack attempt. Note that a user would need to click through a series of Content Advisor setup windows for the attack to be successful. |
