Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Mozilla web browser and its derivative, Firefox, are applications designed for tasks related to browsing the web, such as displaying HTML pages, downloading files, etc. The browsers fully support the Document Object Model (DOM) API and JavaScript (JS). The browsers implement numerous restrictions and verification procedures to prevent security breaches caused by scripts. There exists a vulnerability in Mozilla web browser and its derivatives. The flaw is caused by insufficient validation when handling the JavaScript eval method and Script objects. A remote attacker can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary JavaScript code with escalated privileges. A successful attack will result in arbitrary code execution with the privilege of currently logged in user. The behaviour of the target is dependent on the intention of the malicious code.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Mozilla Suite DOM Property Code Execution protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
Attack Information:  Mozilla Suite DOM Property code execution
