Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Internet Explorer allows HTML documents to embed ActiveX controls for the authoring of dynamic web content. ActiveX controls are based on the Component Object Model (COM) technology. There exists a vulnerability in the Microsoft Design Tools Diagram Surface COM object, an object bundled with several popular Microsoft products. When this COM object is instantiated as an ActiveX component by Internet Explorer, memory corruption can occur. A remote attacker can exploit the vulnerability by enticing the victim to open a malicious web page using Internet Explorer. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can allow for arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the currently logged in user. In a simple attack case aimed at creating a denial of service condition, the affected Internet Explorer will terminate. In a more sophisticated attack scenario, where the malicious user is successful in injecting and executing supplied code, the behaviour of the system is dependent on the nature the injected code. Any code injected into the vulnerable component would execute in the security context of logged in user. |
