Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Stored procedures are a powerful feature of an Oracle database server. They are essentially a set of SQL statements that are stored server-side, which are called by name and optionally passed a set of parameters. Stored procedures provide improved performance, because only data specific to the passed parameters is returned to the client. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in the Oracle Database products. The flaw is caused by improper boundary verification in the sys.pbsde.init procedure handler. A malicious user may submit overly long parameters to the affected procedure to execute arbitrary code or terminate the database server on the target. A simple attack against this vulnerability will lead to the termination of the Oracle database server, causing a denial of service condition of the database server. In a successful attack, where an attacker injects code into the vulnerable target, the behaviour of the target host is dependent on the intention of the malicious code. Any code executed by the attacker runs with the privileges of the affected product. |
