Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Oracle Database is an enterprise-level relational database suite. It contains many components that enable users and administrators to access it for various tasks, such as database manipulation, or administration of the numerous Oracle services. One of such management utilities in the Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) Agent which can be accessed using a web browser. A vulnerability has been reported in Oracle Application Server 10g and numerous other Oracle products. The vulnerability may be exploited remotely to cause a stack based buffer overflow in the affected process. This may allow malicious users to exploit this flaw in order to inject and execute arbitrary code on the target host. In a simple attack case aimed at creating a denial of service condition, Oracle Enterprise Management Agent will terminate. In a more sophisticated attack scenario, where the malicious user is successful in injecting and executing supplied code, the behaviour of the system is dependent on the nature the injected code. Any code injected into the vulnerable component will execute in the security context of the Oracleoracleas1ASControl service. This service runs as System by default installation on Windows platforms.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R81 / R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Oracle Application Server 10g emagent.exe Stack Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
