Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | The Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) specifies a protocol for the access and manipulation of electronic mail. The protocol permits the manipulation of mailboxes on a remote server and allows a remote client, among other operations, to create, delete, or rename mailboxes on the server side. The MailEnable IMAP server is an implementation of the server side of the IMAP protocol. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in the MailEnable IMAP service component. The flaw is caused by insufficient boundary check when handling the mailbox name parameter of several IMAP commands. A malicious remote user may leverage this vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary code on the target system. An attack may result in either a denial of service condition of the affected service or diversion of the process flow of the affected process. In the case of a successful code execution attack, the affected process will be diverted to attacker supplied code which is injected during the attack. If such an attack is not successful, then a denial of service condition will result. In the case of a denial of service attack, the affected process will terminate and will have to be manually restarted in order to restore functionality. |
