Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | The Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 integrated development environment (IDE) suite is designed for building Windows based applications and Web solutions. The product contains several tools which can be used to design programs in languages such as C++, or Basic. A development environment in Visual Studio is referred to as a Solution. A Solution may contain various Visual Studio or Visual InterDev projects such as Visual Studio Database Projects and so on. There exists a stack based buffer overflow vulnerability in Microsoft Visual Studio. The flaw is caused by improper boundary checks when processing overly long project name strings contained in Database Project (.dbp) files and Solution (.sln) files. An attacker exploiting this vulnerability can inject and execute arbitrary code within the security context of the currently logged in user. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected product will terminate. In the case of successful code injection resulting in the execution of supplied code, the behaviour of the system is dependent on the nature of the injected code. Any code injected into the vulnerable component would execute in the security context of logged in user. |
