Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Oracle Application Server is a multi-platform solution for developing and deploying enterprise applications and web sites. The server ships with several additional components that extend its functionality. One of such component is the Oracle Reports Services. The Reports Services component allows for the execution of Oracle Reports executable (REP or RDF) files. A Reports executable is executed on the server side when requested by a remote client. There exists a file overwriting vulnerability in Oracle Reports Services, a component of Oracle Application Server. The flaw is caused by insufficient checking of the CGI parameter desname in an HTTP request. By exploiting this vulnerability, an attacker can corrupt arbitrary files on the target server. The target system will not show any abnormal behaviour after the crafted HTTP request has been sent to the target. Thereafter, the behaviour will depend on the file overwritten by the attacker. For example, if the file c:boot.ini is overwritten on a Windows system, the target may not boot up normally. |
