Vulnerability Description Apple QuickTime is a multimedia player that supports a wide range of media formats. The software supports parsing and displaying picture files as well as numerous video formats. QuickTime is capable of processing the Apple QuickTime movie file format, which is a proprietary format created by Apple Computer, Inc. There exists a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in Apple QuickTime. The flaw is caused by insufficient checks imposed on the value that defines the size of a udta Atom in a MOV file. The behaviour of the affected application is fully dependent on the outcome of an attack attempt. In the case of an unsuccessful attack, the application will terminate. In the case where the flow of the vulnerable process is successfully diverted, the behaviour of the target host system is fully dependent on the intention of the supplied code. In the case where process flow is diverted as a result of an attack, the attacker supplied code will be executed with the privileges of the currently logged on user.
