Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Novell GroupWise Messenger is a corporate instant messaging solution targeted towards medium to large enterprise organizations. It facilitates secure communications and policy-based management through Novell's eDirectory product suite. The product is based on a client server model where messaging clients connect to a central server to communicate after successful authentication is performed. A stack buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the Novell GroupWise Messenger product. The vulnerability is caused due to a flaw when verifying specific HTTP headers supplied by the client. An unauthenticated attacker may exploit this vulnerability to inject and execute code on a target host with System privileges. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected service will terminate, dropping all existing connections and refusing further connections until restarted manually. In a sophisticated attack scenario where code injection is successful, the behaviour of the target system is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the System user. |
