Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Word is a document authoring product released by the Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft Word is shipped with the Microsoft Office suite and also available as a standalone product. The default file extension of Word documents is .doc. There exists a memory corruption vulnerability in Microsoft Word. The vulnerability is due to improper validation of Formatted Disk Pages Table count values in the file header. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing the target user to open a crafted Word document, potentially causing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the current user. If an attack attempt is unsuccessful in injecting and executing arbitrary code, Microsoft Word or Word Viewer may terminate abnormally. If a code execution attempt is carried out successfully, the behaviour of the target host is dependent on the intention of the injected code.
