Vulnerability Description | The IBM DB2 Universal Database (UDB) is a relational database management system. The product supports the Distributed Relational Database Architecture (DRDA), an Open Group standard, to meet the needs of application programs requiring access to distributed relational data. There exists a denial of service vulnerability in the IBM DB2 Universal Database product. The vulnerability is due to a failure in handling exceptional conditions when setting up Distributed Relational Database Architecture (DRDA) protocol sessions. A crafted message supplied during the handshake procedure may result in the server becoming unstable resulting in its eventual shutdown. In a successful attack case, the vulnerable DB2 database service will terminate, creating a denial of service condition. The service will need to be restarted manually in order to restore functionality. Regardless, all transactions and network connections to the DB2 database server present at the time of termination will shut down. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
