Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Apple QuickTime is a multimedia player that supports a wide range of media formats. The software supports parsing and displaying picture files as well as numerous audio/video formats. One of the supported video format is the ITU-T H.264 standard, also known as MPEG-4 Part 10 or Advanced Video Coding (AVC). A stack buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the Apple Quicktime H.264 processing component. The flaw is caused by insufficient checks when processing H.264 movie files. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability by enticing a target user to open a crafted H.264 movie file, thereby injecting and executing arbitrary code with the privileges of the currently logged-in user. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the vulnerable Quicktime application processing the malicious H.264 file will terminate abnormally. In a more sophisticated attack, where code injection is successful, the behaviour of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current user. |
