Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Apple QuickTime is a multimedia player that supports a wide range of media formats. The software supports parsing and displaying still image files as well as numerous audio and video formats. It also provides libraries and plugins for other applications, such as browsers, to read QuickTime media files. A security bypass vulnerability has been reported in the Apple QuickTime browser plug-in. The flaw is due to lack of security checks on the "qtnext" parameter of the QuickTime Media Link files "embed" tag. Reportedly, exploitation of this vulnerability allows for execution of script code in the the target browser with privileged access. Another vector of this vulnerability allows for local resource linking from untrusted sources which is normally not allowed. In an attack case where code execution is successful, the behaviour of the target host is dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case will execute within the security context of the currently logged on user. The script code will execute bypassing the security policy enforced by the web browser. In case the attempt of code execution failed, the target host will not exhibit any abnormal behaviour. |
