Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Novell eDirectory is a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server, intended for use as a part of an identity management solution. The product is made available for multiple platforms including NetWare, Unix-like systems, and Windows. A code execution vulnerability has been reported in the iMonitor HTTP server component of Novell eDirectory products. An attacker may exploit the vulnerability by sending a malicious HTTP request to the vulnerable target server. Exploitation of this flaw may result in the diversion of the process flow of the HTTP server process. In a simple attack case aimed at creating a denial of service condition, the affected eDirectory service will terminate. If the service is not configured to restart automatically, the service will be unavailable until it is restarted manually. In a sophisticated attack scenario where the malicious user is successful in injecting and executing supplied code, the behaviour of the system is dependent on the nature of the injected code. Any code injected into the vulnerable component would execute in the security context of the service process. On Windows systems, the service is running as System by default. |
