Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Ipswitch WS_FTP server is a full featured secure File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server complete with several optional authentication mechanisms, encryption and data access controls. It is fully compliant with the File Transfer Protocol specifications. There exists a denial of service vulnerability in the way WS_FTP Logging Server Daemon handles WS_FTP logging requests. Remote unauthenticated attackers can exploit this vulnerability to cause a denial of service of an affected system. Upon a successful attack, the vulnerable WS_FTP logging server will terminate and exit, creating a denial of service condition. The service needs to be restarted manually to restore its functionality.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the IPSwitch WS_FTP Logging Server Daemon Denial of Service protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  FTP Enforcement Violation.
Attack Information:  IPSwitch WS_FTP logging server daemon denial of service
