Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | ACDSee is an image viewer software for Windows developed by ACD Systems. Besides the usual thumbnail viewing of folders and file type conversion, key features of ACDSee include slideshow presentations, CD/DVD burning, HTML gallery creation, image folder syncing and editing/indexing of image metadata. It is also possible to do minor image manipulation like cropping, scaling and rotating. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in multiple ACDSee products. The flaw is due to a boundary error when processing crafted XPM files. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by persuading the target user to open a malicious XPM file with the affected application. Successful attack could allow for arbitrary code being injected and executed with the privileges of the currently logged on user. In an attack where code injection is successful, the behaviour of the target host is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the currently logged in user. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the vulnerable application will terminate abnormally. |
