Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Skype is a peer-to-peer Voice over IP (VoIP) Internet telephony network solution. The product is used to transfer real time conversations between two peers over the Internet. Skype users can speak to other Skype users, receive calls from traditional phones, and receive voice-mail messages. Peers are identified by Internet addresses as opposed to phone numbers in the traditional phone system. There exists a heap corruption vulnerability in Skype application. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error when processing crafted URL parameters. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing target user to visit malicious web pages. Successful exploitation would allow for arbitrary code injection and execution with the privileges of the logged-in user privileges. An attack targeting this vulnerability can result in the injection and execution of arbitrary code. If code execution is successful, the behaviour of the target will depend on the intention of the attacker. Any injected code will be executed within the security context of the currently logged in user. In the case of an unsuccessful code execution attack, the web browser using the vulnerable application may terminate abnormally. |
