Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Microsoft Visio is a diagramming application that is part of the Microsoft Office suite. There exists a memory corruption vulnerability in the way Microsoft Visio handles specially-crafted DXF files. Remote attackers can exploit this vulnerability by enticing target users to open a specially crafted DXF file. An attack targeting this vulnerability can result in the injection and execution of code. If code execution is successful, the behaviour of the target will depend on the intention of the attacker. Any code injected will be executed within the security context of the currently logged in user. In the case of an unsuccessful code execution attack, the affected application will terminate resulting in the loss of any unsaved data from the current session.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Visio DXF File Handling Code Execution (MS08-019) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
